We are delighted to announce our 2nd annual Wayzgoose celebration– a printer’s tradition from the 16th century, celebrating the transition from printing by sunlight to candlelight.
The printed word and art, and the sharing of stories and food, are ancient ways of building community and of sharing a message. More and more in our world today, people feel alienated, and afraid, especially in rural America. Political, racial, and religious differences are being reinforced through divisive rhetoric on all sides. There are few opportunities for real human connection or developing a sense of community and belonging, let alone ones that bridge these cultural gaps. The 2024 Wayzgoose at Springhouse is a time to highlight the voices of immigrants, refugees, and asylum seekers through the art of printing, the sharing of stories, and making and sharing a meal together.
We are excited to welcome Salvador Jiménez-Flores, interdisciplinary artist from Jalisco Mexico, and founder of the Tortilla Social, an interactive printmaking and food workshop where participants use a multi-functional tortilla press to make their own art work and to eat freshly made tortillas. This event will include a workshop from Jiménez-Flores and community meal, followed by a community conversation with Jiménez-Flores and members of our regional community.
