Coming of Age

We offer two, short-term programs that support teens and pre-teens as they grow up.

Our Tides and Ridgelines program focuses on preparing pre-teens and their parents for the changes that come with puberty. The Blue Ride Passage is a 5-day backpacking trip for teenagers focused on cultivating courage and building resiliency, which will greatly support these teens as they transition into young adulthood in the years to come.

Tides and Ridgelines

Tides and Ridgelines mark the transition between childhood and adolescence. These programs help young people and their parents prepare for both the challenges and gifts of puberty. Both programs are held outdoors and bring together boys and fathers (Ridgelines) and girls and mothers (Tides) or another significant adult in their life – grandparent, mentor, family friend.

Growing up can be disorienting, especially when transitions from one developmental stage into the next go unmarked. These programs offer opportunities for young people to be seen and celebrated in these important changes and also offer space for caregivers to reflect on the changing nature of their roles. We believe this kind of support for a family and an individual’s development is an important part of building a healthy community and healthy culture.

This year, these programs will be held over a weekend in June (Friday – Sunday) with two nights at the Springhouse campus. Details for the overnight will be provided on registration.

Tuition: Our Tides and Ridgelines tuition is $500. The default payment schedule is $500 paid on registration. No one is turned away for lack of funds. Schedule a conversation with Chris Wolf to determine your program tuition.

The Blue Ridge Passage

The Blue Ridge Passage (BRP), a 5-day backpacking trip in the beautiful backcountry of the Shenandoah National Park, is a program for teens (13-18). This trip builds resiliency through a week of primitive camping, hiking nearly 40 miles, carrying a heavy pack, spending time alone, exposure to the elements, and intimate community. The experience offers a physical challenge, personal growth, and deep connection with the group and the natural world. Our hope is that this trip supports adolescents to grow into authentic adults, inspired and empowered to meet the world’s emerging needs.

Upcoming Trip: July 6th – 10th, 2023

Tuition: Our Blue Ridge Passage tuition is $1000. The default payment schedule is $1000 paid on registration, but alternative payment plans are available. No one is turned away for lack of funds. Schedule a conversation with Chris Wolf to determine your program tuition.
